Up for consideration is a brand new Black Lion Audio BLA B173 microphone preamp / DI, a modern recreation of the classic Neve Console circuit, inspired by the vintage Neve 1073. This is a great all-rounder mic preamp that is great for vocals, acoustic instruments, guitar cabs and strings. Vintage Neve 1073 mics are selling for $4K each, so there is a big demand for this type of sound at a lower entry price-point. Black Lion Audio has come to the rescue with this B173 recreation at a fraction of the cost, yet with the unmistakable 1073 flavor and tone!!!

CLASSIC NEVE SOUND
B173's have a great vintage Neve character and tone that imparts a smoothness and musicality to your tracks. The sound is big, with some nice bass heft, and the trebles are smooth and silky. The 80 dB of gain is enough to power ribbon mics, and the front panel DI makes for convenient entry points for guitar/bass/synth. The Output Control lets you drive the preamp, or can be used as a fine tuned output pot for inbetween settings of the stepped gain control.

SOUND FILES
These 16 MP3s are recorded through a spaced pair of Schoeps CMT 541 condenser mics into a pair Black Lion Audio B173 premps using a Metric Halo ULN8 interface, with MP3s made in Logic. These files have no compression, EQ or reverb -- just straight signal.
