Rare 6-String Mandora Mandolin
Up for sale is a rare, professional-quality Mandora / mandolin by the famous violin maker Enrico Rocca, in playable condition, complete with label dated 1884, from Genoa, Italy. His violins sell for $100k - $200k, so here is a rare opportunity to acquire an Enrico Rocca mandolin for a fraction of 1/100th the price of the violin!!
This Enrico Rocca mandolin has a spruce top and soundhole, which are bound with different kinds of wood inlays, Brazilian rosewood scratchplate, and ebony endplate, and the round rosewood bowl back is interspersed with 13 fruitwood stripes, and edged with rosewood flower inlays all around the bowl. The neck is good shape, and culminates in a lute style head, edged with different kinds of wood inlays and a mother of pearl face plate. The headstock has six non-original ebony pegs, the extended scalloped fingerboard in ebony with 20 good frets, ebony bridge, and bone nut. Total length: 56.4 cm, scale length: 30.5 cm, width: 22.5 cm, depth: 12 cm, nut: 4 cm.
The top has some repaired cracks that are cleated, and also some unrepaired
cracks, so the mandolin will need some restoration if it is to be returned to its professional performance level. Does not come with a case.
