|1963 Epiphone Coronet
Modded to Wilshire
2x DiMarzio P90 PUPs
Wilkenson Wraparound Bridge
New Tuners, Pots, Knobs
Weight: 5 Lbs., 14 Oz.
Here is a very cool guitar, a 1963 Epi Coronet that we got in after it had been modded decades ago to 2x HBs with a Bigsby. So we have now modded it back to P90s, with 2x DiMarzio soapbars, trying to make it fit in the Coronet / Wilshire vibe. We replaced the tuners, and the bridge is Wilkinson intonated wraparound, and the pots are new, as are the knobs. Still original is the truss rod cover, and the control cavity cover.
The guitar plays great, and sounds fantastic. It has a cool look, and is in relatively good condition for 1963. It naturally has some nicks and dings from 50 years of use, as can be seen in the photos. The neck may have been reset at some point, and the frets have plenty of life left on them.
This guitar was modded by Tom Oatley, of Oatley's Garage in Austin, TX. Tom has tech'd for Bill Gibbons, Eric Clapton, and gone on the road numerous times as Jimmy Vaughn's guitar tech. So the upgrades here are all professionally done by a top repair luthier, so no worries there.
All in all, a great-sounding guitar that is a blast to play, and is a little bit different looking -- but still in the vintage Epi family -- with the control layout of a Coronet and the 2x pickup layout of the Wilshire. Custom 3-ply pick guard, with vintage 1950s Epi logo.
