So up for sale is a guitar that is built on the concept that with a professional, world-class pickup upgrade, even a lowly guitar like the $100 Epi JR can be a great sounding guitar. AND IT IS!!! This guitar really sounds fantastic, and the DiMarzio P90 brings you right back to the realm of authentic, classic, vintage tone of the original LP / SG JRs, but with a savings of of several thousand dollars!!
Of course, on this guitar the stock tuners were rather flimsy, so they needed upgrading as well, and we went for the concept of adding a more massive Badass-style bridge to get some beefier tone and better intonation than provided by the stock Epi bridge. Also, having matching gold hardware is a nice visual upgrade as well, and sets it apart from the crowd both visually as well as sonically.
The guitar itself is in good condition for 2009, with just a couple of dings, and it still has the plastic covering on the rear control cavity. It has a very nice 60s profile neck, and is very fun to play, easy to play, and it sounds fantastic!!
This guitar was modded / upgraded by Tom Oatley, of Oatley's Guitar Garage in Austin, TX. Tom has teched for Billy Gibbons, Eric Clapton, and gone on the road numerous times as Jimmy Vaughn's guitar tech. So the upgrades here are all professionally done by a top repair luthier, so no worries there.
All in all, a great-sounding guitar that is fun to play, and is a little bit different looking with the upgraded gold parts, just to let people know that this is not the run of the mill, stock Epi Junior, but a customized, upgraded, Hot-Rodded model.
