Up for consideration is a late 1950s vintage GIBSON ES-225 electric guitar and softshell case. This guitar has an upgraded Rio Grande Dawgbucker pickup with a coil-tap single / humbucker switch on the tone pot. Late 1950s Gibson electrics are the Holy Grails of the entire history of electric guitars, with some going for well over $300k. Here ia a great chance to get a incredible late 50s Gibson electric -- built by the VERY SAME GUYS, and get the extra versatility of the upgraded 2-position pickup, all for less then the price of a modern reissue!!!

CONDITION
The guitar is in excellent cosmetic and playing condition, with no major repairs or nagging issues of any kind, and I have only used in a non-smoking teaching studio. However, with any 60-year guitar, a lot of history comes with it, and while this guitar still has a lot of original parts and plays and looks great, there are a fewthings worth mentioning: the guitar has been refinished at some point in the distant past. The guitar was probably originally a Sunburst, and it has been refinished to natural. It may have been refinished twice, as there is blue overspray inside the f-holes of the guitar, which makes reading the date code VERY difficult. I can tell it is late 1950s, from the neck profile, as the mid-1950s necks are chunky and thick, and this one is much nicer, like those of the late 1950s Gibsons.

The guitar has great tone, sustain, and body, and is also capable of some nice controlled feedback effects. These tracks are all recorded using the HB position, playing through a Peavey Studio Pro 112 amp with a Behringer Virtualizer effects unit, using a Shure SM57 mic recorded straight into a Sony PCM D1 flash recorder, and MP3s were made in Logic, with no EQ or effects.

In short, this guitar is a World-Class electric concert and/or recording guitar, and it would make a great guitar for live gigs, as well as for studio work. It is versatile, very fun to play, and the wide range of sounds you can get out of it give the flexibility to play in a lot of different styles, including jazz, country, rockability, fusion, and rock. But playing through the amp cranked up is where it really shines for me, because the controlled feedback can create truly endless sustain!!!
