Neumann KM83 Closely-Matched Stereo Pair!!!

Up for consideration is a closely-matched vintage pair of Neumann KM83 cardioid condenser microphones. These mics are highly coveted for acoustic instruments, especially guitar, and overheads. You will find these mics in widespread use in all the great recording studios, like Abbey Road. New, the current model Neumann KM-130 sells for $2700 a pair, and even the fixed capsule KM-183 sells for $1800 a pair, so here is your chance to pick up a closly-matched serials, collectable, transformer-coupled, vintage 1974 KM-83 omni pair, and not even have to pay a premium!!!

CONDITION
These mics is in excellent condition for almost 40 or so years of service, with just a few minor scratches from normal use. Click here for 1270 DPI Hi-Res Photos. The threads on the capsule work perfectly, and the pad also works fine. These were made at the time where the KK83 omni capsule designation was graphically represented by the encrribed circule (for omni) at the tip of the capsule head. Later, to avoid confusion, they engraved the capsule number on the capsule head, instead of the body. All the KM83/4/5 bodies are identical, so even though one of these bodies says KM85, the capsules are both KK83 omnis, and together they comprise a closely-matched omni pair, as both were made in July, 1074.

These mics sound wonderful, with low self-noise. I used them briefly for tracking Classical Harp Guitar, and they sounds warm, detailed and very musical. These make a very nice A/B omni pair, and have the added advantage of reduced proximity effect for close-micing of acoustic instruments. They would also make a great center channel for M/S recording, as you can get in closer than you can with the cardioid. I really don't want to sell these, but must do so to pay for some other vintage gear.

SOUND FILES:
Here are some quick, 1-take MP3 sound files showing how each mic sounds through a Presonus ADL 600 preamp into a Rosetta 200 A/D converter. No EQ or effects.
