Up for consideration is a Dealer Demo Neumann U87i multi-pattern condenser microphone. The classic U87Ai mics are highly coveted for pro studios because they sound great on everything, take EQ well, and have a polished, well-recognized "like a record" sound. Also, the new models have a higher output, which is preferable on quiet sources.

You will find these U87Ai mics in widespread use in all the great recording studios, like Abbey Road, where they currently have 11 of them!!! Lastly, the problem with buying a used U87 is that since they are studio workhorses, that means that many of them have 1,000s of hours on them, and are likely to be way are out of spec, in need a good cleaning -- as well as other repair service. U87AI DEALER DEMO This is a brand mic with full 2-year warranty. It has been used only by myself to track 10-String Classical Harp Guitars in my Home Studio. It has never been used on vocals or spoken work. It has never left my studio, never been loaned out, or never been used by anyone else other than myself, for any purpose whatsoever. It is 100% mint, as-new, and virtually indistinguishable from a "brand new" U87Ai from the factory. Packaging is new, as from the factory. Great opportunity to save $500 on a barely used Dealer Demo U87Ai. It really sounds amazing -- especially on acoustic guitars, and sounds quite different from some older used U87Ai's I have heard. This the best way to get the correct U87 sound!!!

OLD OR NEW There is much debate over the differences between the old U87i and the new U87Ai. Many prefer the older design for its warmth and richness, and great headroom. Others prefer the U87Ai, because it has lower self-noise as well as higher output. There are then others for whom there is no discernible difference!!!
