EXTREMELY
RARE! -- PURE UNOBTAINIUM!
Up for consideration is a vintage Schoeps M221b DZ20
- 20 dB pad. This fits between the capsule and the body of the
Schoeps M221b series mics (it does not work on the M221a).
If you have ever desired to pull out your M221b's on higher sound-level
sources like drums or guitar cabs -- but were afraid it might
wreak havoc on the fraigle AC701k tube system, than this screw-on
pad may be just the ticket as it raises your maximum sound pressure
level by about 20 dB. The slider switch is engraved with -17
dB, so that may be the precise amount of attenuation. New, the
CMC version sells for $258.00, so here may be your only chance
to get this rare vintage specimen and not even have to pay a
premium!!!
CONDITION
I got this with a M221b set, but since I am only using
it for Classical
Harp Guitar I have no need for it myself. The pad came from
a pro studio that recently closed down, and the seller said it
was purchased from Mercenary Audio in the early 1990s. The slider
switch is supposed to toggle the pad between 0 dB and -17 dB,
but the switch does not work and the pad is always active at
-17 dB when attached.
