VINTAGE MICROPHONE
AKG C414 EB
A lot of studio guys are interested in time travel,
so they can go back in time to purchase all the coveted vintage
mics at the old retail prices. If you could travel back in time
to 1981, you could get a KM84 for $386 (now about $1,000); a
U87 for $1,155 (now about $3,000); U47 FET for $1,056 (now $3,000);
and an AKG C414 EB for $695 (now $695!!!). You see, there
is no need for time travel here, for due to a warble in the Vintage
Microphone continuium you can still get this great vintage mic
for the same price it sold for in 1981!!!
This model is known as being perhaps the best of the entire C414
line (certainly better than every 414 that came after it), and
these mics are true studio workhorses, as they sound great on
a wide variety of sources. You will still find these mics in
widespread use in all the great recording studios, like Abbey
Road, where they still use four C414 EBs.

CONDITION
These mics is in very good condition considering that
it is almost 30 or so years old, with just minor scratches and
dings from normal use. Click here for 1270
DPI Hi-Res Photos. The mic has been checked recently
by Tony Merrill at Stephen Paul Audio (for the previous owner),
and is still performing perfectly in all the patterns, with all
the pad and cut switches working perfectly. These really are
amazingly versatile mics, and in my opinion represent one of
the best values in the today's vintage mic market.
This mic sounds wonderful on both classical and acoustic guitars.
I used it briefly for tracking Classical
Harp Guitar, and it sounds warm, natural, detailed, and very
musical. I really don't want to sell this mic, but must do so
to pay for some other gear that I recenly bought.
SOUND FILES:
Here are 15 quick, 1-take MP3 sound files showing how
the mic sounds through a Presonus ADL 600 preamp into
a Rosetta 200 A/D converter. No EQ or effects.
