1961 Epi Olympic / Gibson Melody Maker, w/Strat Pups, Side Mount Jack * IN STOCK *
Modded by West Texas Luthier, Michael Turkow
Nut Width 1 11/16" (43.2 mm) Weight: 5 Lbs, 11 Oz.
Up for consideration is very nice vintage 1961 Epiphone Olympic -- a re-branded Gibson Melody Maker -- with our Strat PUP mod -- making this a fantastic playing and sounding guitar, with several Fender features, including a pair of Rio Grande / Dirty Harry Strat PUPs, Fender sytle knobs, and the side-mount Tele guitar output jack. The guitar has the original Gibson finish, original Tuners, truss rod cover and strap buttons, with modern pots, wiring and bridge. The Rio Grand / Dirty Harry PUPs are voiced to be 1/2 way between Strat and P90s, and they sounds fantastic on this guitar. Here is a great opportunity to own an amazing vintage 1961 Gibson for under $1k.
This guitar is for Gibson players who want a bit of the Fender bite and twang in a guitar while at the same time staying with the classic early-60s Gibson build quality -- not to mention the long gone Brazilian Rosewood fingerboards and Honduran Mahogany 1-piece body slabs. Routing was done to accommodate the Strat-size PUPs and toggle switch, and a Custom pickguard was made to house the new, simplified control layout. Action and frets are good, and the 1 11/16ths nut and classic Gibson 1961 thin/wide neck profile neck is very comfortable to play. The guitar plays great with no issues, and sounds amazing, with the in between Fender to P90s sound. Does not come with a case.
