|SOLD Vintage 1960s Gibson 16" Flattop Alligator Case
Full-Depth 4 3/8" for Full Size 16" Flattops Acoustics
Gibson Name Plate
3x Latch Case w/2x Working Latches, Working Handle
Sold As-Is for Restoration
Up for sale is a vintage 1950s Gibson alligator case. This is a full depth 16" Flattop case with the body size that fits acoustics up to the body profile of the Southern Jumbo Sloped Shoulder Drednaught.
I got this case with a 1955 ES-225, but I am highly doubtful that it was original to that guitar, since it is a thinline, and this case is full 4 3/8" archtop body depth. Also, the exact year these Alligator cases were issued is not known to me. I'm guessing from the late 50s to early 60s.
2x of the latches work fine, and the handle and the hinges are good, and the Gibson name plate is in good condition on the case compartment lid. The neck case latch is non-functional as that piece of the case lid has come loose and needs to be restored. Also, the leather or cloth strap keep the case in the open position is long gone, and needs to be replaced. As such, the case is being sold as-is for restoration purposes. It is functional if you just use the back 2x latches and ignore the fact that the case lid strap is missing. The handle is fine.
CASE MAXIMUM INTERIOR DIMENSIONS

The case would make an inexpensive period-correct case for a vintage Gibson. This listing is for the alligator case only, and no actual guitar is included.
