Neumann KM254
Up for consideration is a vintage Neumann KM254
condenser microphone with the KK54 cardioid nickel capsule. These
vimtage Neumann mics are highly coveted for acoustic instruments,
especially guitar, and overheads. You will find these mics in
widespread use in all the great recording studios, like Abbey
Road, where they still use four KM53s, and ten KM54s!!!
On the retail vintage market (places like Vintage King and Sonic
Circus), a Neumann KM-254 or KM-54 sells for $3,500, so here
is your chance to pick up an amazing-sounding KM254 at a huge
discount!!!

CONDITION
This mic is in very good condition considering that it
is almost 50 or so years old, with just minor scratches and dings
from normal use. Click here for 1270
DPI Hi-Res Photos. It does have a Thiersch
reskinn, a replacement Telefunken AC701 tube, and the capsule
head is missing the original silk mesh cloth. The cable and PSU
are both new, fitted and calibrated to this mic at AMI
/ TAB-Funkenwerk
This mic sounds wonderful, with very low self-noise. The Thiersch
reskinn has a slight midrange emphasis, and will not make a parfectly
matched pair with a stock KM254 (see sound files below). The
previous owner had used it for 4-5 CDs, including most of the
acoustic guitars on Rickie Lee Jones' new album.
